We celebrated a new milestone in our commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency: the completion of El Corchito, the self-consumption solar photovoltaic plant we have built for Siderúrgica Balboa.
On Tuesday 12 November, we had the honour of sharing this moment with key institutional representatives from the Regional Government of Extremadura, including Mercedes Morán, Regional Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Sustainable Development; Raquel Pastor, Director-General for Industry, Energy and Mines; and Germán Puebla, Director-General for Sustainability. During the event, Morán stated: “El Corchito is an example of a way of understanding industrial progress that is aligned with today’s challenges: producing more and better, reducing environmental impact and committing to energy self-sufficiency.”

During the visit, they were accompanied by Ricardo Leal, Chairman and Founder of our Group; Miguel Ángel Leal, CEO of our Steel Division; Jesús Leal, CEO of the Group’s Renewable Energy Construction Division; and José Luis García Donoso, Director

Miguel Ángel Leal highlighted the project’s strategic value: “Having renewable energy generated on site allows us to strengthen the energy independence of our facilities and make progress on our climate commitments.”
The El Corchito plant represents the second-largest industrial self-consumption project built to date in Spain. With more than 25 MWp of capacity and 35,820 bifacial modules, it will allow Siderúrgica Balboa to cover nearly 10% of its annual energy consumption, with a 90% utilisation rate and estimated savings of €2.5 million per year.

The project was carried out by our Group’s Energy Efficiency Department and GES under an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) model. This internal collaboration exemplifies how, at CL Grupo Industrial, we create valuable synergies to drive innovative, efficient energy solutions aligned with our vertical integration strategy.
Because sustainability, in its broadest sense, forms part of the industry with soul that we are already building.
