On 12 May, a new edition of La Razón’s Sustainability and Environment Awards was held. The gala was chaired by Paloma Martín Martín, Regional Minister for the Environment, Spatial Planning and Sustainability of the Community of Madrid; Francisco Marhuenda, the newspaper’s Director; Francisco Hiraldo, Chairman of the Board of Directors; and Andrés Navarro, Chief Executive Officer.
Among the 24 award-winning companies was Matías Gomá Tomás, a company belonging to CL Grupo Industrial, which received the Leading Company in 100% Recycled Paper Award.
Josep Maria Grau, General Manager of Matías Gomá, was responsible for collecting the award, and when we asked him why he thought it had been granted to them, his response was very firm: “We are a very clear example of the circular economy in our sector, as we reuse cardboard as a raw material to manufacture paper and give it an efficient and sustainable use. The packaging paper sector in Spain is a benchmark in the circular economy, thanks to the maximum use made of recovered paper, preventing it from having to be treated as waste. In addition, we are a small company, which allows us to maintain some of the lowest water and energy consumption ratios in the sector. At the same time, we optimise all our resources in order to cause as little harm as possible to the environment around us.”

Matías Gomá Tomás has a very clear idea: to make a product that is sustainable in every respect. For example, they seek business sustainability by working to improve their competitiveness in terms of quality, as well as costs and employment. Specifically, from a labour perspective, their objective is to retain and strengthen the entire team currently in place.
On the other hand, their effort and dedication are also aimed at improving and caring for the environment, reinvesting profits in our society and thereby promoting corporate social responsibility. They state that they are always striving for a process of continuous improvement, so that their activity is aligned with the health of our environment. Fully committed to the corporate social responsibility to which they attach such great importance.
